History of Poke Salad is on the back of card:

Poke Salad, pokeweed, poke sallet.  It can reach a height of 20 feet or more.   The poke berry juice was once used for dye.  Poke salad is one of the first plants to sprout in the spring.

Mama just knows how far down to pinch the young green leaves in order not to get the poisonous white roots. Then, after boiling the plant, she’d pour off the liquid and sometimes scramble the cooked sallet with eggs in a skillet!   

Some wildlife enjoy it too.  Beautiful, fascinating plant.
